The Dahlia Society of Victoria is registered as an Incorporated Association with Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV). The Society's Registered Number is A0010711F.  The Dahlia Society of Victoria is incorporated as an association generally in accordance with Consumer Affairs Victoria model rules, with the exception that the Society allows a membership application to be submitted digitally as well as in written form.

The Rules define the purposes and powers of the association, membership rights and privileges, grievance and disciplinary procedures, conduct of meetings, committee roles and responsibilities, and financial management requirements. The Society's Rules can be viewed in full and downloaded at Rules of Association. 

The registration with CAV includes the following specific to the Society. 

Name

The name of the incorporated association is “Dahlia Society of Victoria Incorporated".

Purposes

The purposes of the association are to:

1. collect and disseminate information on the culture of dahlias
2. promote and encourage the cultivation of dahlias
3. co-operate and affiliate when deemed advisable with other societies and organizations with similar purposes
4. promote and organize an annual show to encourage dahlia growers to demonstrate their horticultural skills through competitive exhibition of their blooms
5. ensure a high standard of competitive judging of dahlias by:

(a) conducting training programs for new judges

(b) the maintenance of a register of judges approved by the society

(c) the allocation of judges for flower shows, exhibitions and competitions conducted by garden clubs and horticultural societies with preference given to affiliates of the Dahlia Society of Victoria Incorporated

6.  promote the production of new dahlia varieties through a show bench competition.

Financial Year

The financial year of the Association is each period of 12 months ending on 31 March
