DSA Statement on Virus in Dahlias

January 2025

The Dahlia Society of Australia has recently released a statement regarding the topic of dahlia virus in Australia. This is a subject all growers of dahlias are concerned about particularly the uncertainty of the right action to take.

We all invest considerable time and money in purchasing and nurturing our tubers, it is disappointing as growth develops, to find the leaves have blemishes, are discoloured, the stems have dark markings and or the plants have stunted, distorted growth and generally do not thrive.

The President of the DSA, Graeme Davis in consultation with all state societies including your own DSV, agreed there was a need to make an announcement regarding the concern with virus in Australian dahlias. Graeme has researched extensively and consulted with many respected growers and scientists in creating this statement.

The Dahlia Society of Victoria would like to thank Graeme for his carefully prepared statement made in good faith to assist dahlia growers in the management of their personal dahlia plantings.

Pam Albutt,

President, Dahlia Society of Victoria
